A NEW PHASE

ENTER A NEW CHAPTER

A few days from today, our favorite season (summer!) here at LEISURE & JOIE will come to an end.

If you’re like us, with the change of season comes a new set of “rules” for how you live day to day. The weather changes and you find yourself wanting to naturally slow down, dress cozier, stay in a bit more… believe us when we say - SAME.

The reality is, though “slowing down” is the goal… somehow life seems to speed UP toward the end of the year, right? One minute you’re saying Happy Halloween, the next… we’re in the New Year.

With the “end” near (sorry to sound ominous), we highly suggest taking some time to reflect on how the year has gone for you thus far and “take stock”. Take pen to paper (literally or figuratively - whichever suits you best) and reflect, readjust, and reset as you see fit. We’ll definitely be doing the same.

AUTUMN IS MORE THE SEASON OF THE SOUL THAN OF NATURE.

value your time

To ensure your quality of life (QOL) doesn’t suffer these next few months, make sure you are prioritizing people, places, and things that you value and leave you feeling good and energized.

When it seems you have less time (the sun will be going DOWN at 2:00pm! LOL We’re exaggerating, but still!) in a day, making time for who and what is important to you, has to be made a priority.

Don’t overextend yourself. Ignoring your own need for connection, exercise, or recharge makes you run the risk of feeling depleted. Self-care is a way of life for us here at LEISURE & JOIE, not just a catch phrase. If you’re pulled in different directions all day, take space for yourself and those that fill your cup.

Scheduling time with yourself, friends, SO’s, etc. is a great way to have something to look forward and put a smile on your face when you’re knee deep in work!

HEALTH IS WEALTH

In our opinion, physical health and mental health are paramount and inextricably linked to the QOL you experience as your life gets hectic. Keep moving your body, spend some time in silence, read a book, watch an interesting documentary on a topic you enjoy, or listen to soothing music.

As fall and winter arrive, we’ll spend less time outdoors and you may be more exposed to illness in close quarters - make a concerted effort to keep yourself strong and healthy. The foods you eat and even the company you keep contributes to feeling better when others fall ill.

Also - though we are huge fans of meditation, journaling, exercising, etc. sometimes… you just don’t want to do ANYTHING. Sometimes - “doing all the things” just isn’t in the cards… and you know what… that has to be okay, too.

Doing NOTHING AT ALL can actually recharge you and you’ll see how the next day… you’re motivated and ready to go!

GET READY, GET COZY

Here are a few things that help us transition and “slow down” despite life’s pace. Hope they help!

  • Make a list of new restaurants/bars/coffee shops you’d like to try… and GO!

  • Switch to warmer bedding, preferably with a deeper color (auburn, forest green, etc.)

  • Wear layers (in LA… it can be cool in the morning, “summer” in the day, etc.)

  • Change the intensity and style of your workouts

  • Create a new playlist or two - curating your “vibe” is a good thing!

  • Check out a new exhibit at a museum or gallery you’ve been meaning to go to… it’s a great INDOOR activity and you can explore solo with someone else

  • Plan a trip - maybe head to a warmer climate, go abroad, or take a “staycation”

Better yet - feel free to take our suggestions or make your OWN list of things that will work for YOU.

gratitude

With so many things going on in the world, please express gratitude for the people, places, and things, that are in your lives. Don’t take anyone or anything for granted. Life is too short to not appreciate what you have while you have it.
