INTO A NEW SEASON

ON THE CUSP

As it happens, we are always in a state transition - yet it is when we reach certain times of year, be it the solstice or equinox, or any other of life’s pivotal milestones, that it really becomes apparent.

We tend to start thinking more about where we are in life, where we’ve been and where we’d like to go…

forthcoming change

Today is the last day of Summer (our absolute favorite time of year - truth be told, the countdown to next Summer has already begun here at LEISURE & JOIE…).

Like us, you may already find you’ve made subtle changes in the past few days…trading your smoothies for soup, reaching for your favorite sweater, or even just naturally wanting to slow down.

As the days start getting cooler, we generally start looking forward to more “cozy” activities and intentionally begin spending a bit more time indoors doing “quiet” things like low-impact exercise (yoga, pilates), decluttering, reading or doing a puzzle with some wine or a hot cup of tea…

let go of pressure

During the summer, it is super easy to socialize - even moreso than you might typically, just because the day is gorgeous. Even the most introverted of us can’t deny the joy of being outside.

Just remember, it is usually a lot easier to “go home” as the days get shorter. Let go of any FOMO, you don’t have to say YES to everything.

With the shorter days comes what seems like even more limited time. Make sure you’re giving YOURSELF quality time and ONLY choosing to give time to people you truly want to be around and things you really want to be doing.

Find balance and allow ease to show up in your daily life.

DO LESS

It is okay to do LESS. In this society, we are constantly doing more, more AND MORE - at every turn. We have to allow for the possibility that very few things are ACTUAL emergencies and approach things with a more realistic and prioritized sense of “urgency”.

Take it easy, don’t force anything. Focus on what must be done and notice how getting those things done make it so you are a bit more free… free to enjoy your life… free to add moments of leisure.

As the season changes, you might even find yourself getting a little sad. Maybe not in the traditional sense (though seasonal depression is a real thing); more like an overarching sense of melancholy.

Almost as if our inside selves start to mirror the outside temperament. It is normal to feel that way… just don’t let that bit of gloom override your sense of purpose and all the positive aspects of life that certainly continue to go on around us, despite the weather.

SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO

Again, if you’re anything like us, you’re definitely already looking forward to when we’re back in the “carefree”, sun-filled summer days. And though there will certainly be less actual “fun in the sun”, continue to exude that summer mindset. Invite that ease into your life.

Until then, create a special ambiance for yourself to enjoy and thrive in as you spend more time inside. Think of it as cocooning. Light your favorite scent, list the things you’re grateful for and really make the most of the time you have.

There is always something to look forward to and while there is life, continue enjoying your present season and circumstance. It is certainly worth it.
